CARDINALS-EAGLES ONE-LINERS

Posted by Michael David Smith on 11/28/08, 10:38 a.m.

Eagles RB Brian Westbrook scored a team-record four touchdowns and became the first player since Lydell Mitchell in 1975 to score two rushing TDs and two receiving TDs while recording more than 100 yards rushing in one game.

Said Eagles QB Donovan McNabb, “Adversity always happens in our position. It’s how you pull yourself out of it.”

McNabb finished 27-for-39 for 260 yards and four touchdowns, with a quarterback rating of 121.7, and he added four carries for 24 yards.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said of McNabb, “He came out very determined and he relaxed. I thought the offensive line protected him well and I think his receivers caught the football tonight.”

With CB Asante Samuel out, Joselio Hanson started at cornerback ahead of Lito Sheppard.

Eagles FB Kyle Eckel got six carries and picked up 27 yards.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said his team “came out flat. … We just did not seem as crisp as we have been.”

Cardinals QB Kurt Warner threw for a touchdown for the 20th consecutive game, breaking the franchise record of 19 held by Neil Lomax.

Said Warner of playing the Eagles, “When you play against good teams that have good schemes, it’s tough to throw all the time. It’s tough to be a one-dimensional team and continue to be successful week in and week out.”

Said Cardinals FB Terrelle Smith, “Coming into these games on national TV, we’ve got to show what we’re about.”

The Cardinals are a fraud. They will obviously win that patsy division that they play in (almost by default) and then either get upset at home in the Wildcard by Dallas or Tampa or squeak by the first game and then get pistol-whipped when they have to travel for the divisional round.

That is because Lito kind of stinks… Even when he was great - he kind of stunk. No heart.

Nice to see the Eagles run a lot and be effective at it, too.

You mean, when you run the ball decently, teams will not be able to double cover ALL your receivers and you can effectively throw the ball also?! zOMG WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT, ANDY REID?! I love my Eagles but they are so frustrating that they can “lose” (they didn’t win) to the Bengals, get blown out by a decent but not great Ravens team, and then shit on Kurt Warner’s chest the next week. Where is the consistency?

But i thought the Eagles couldn’t run the ball due to the lack of a marquee fullback? Isn’t that ALL Eagles fans have been crying about for weeks now? Wow, maybe they aren’t all experts after all. Who could have guessed it? Eagles fans don’t know everything after all, go figure.

Yes, in short yardage situations, genius. We’ve been complaining for 2 different reasons: because we haven’t been running the ball AT ALL, and because we especially haven’t run the ball in short yardage situations (which is why we’ve been calling for a FB)…. so if you read the headlines… you’ll see that Kyle Eckel converted a few 3-1’s for us and now we’re temporarily happy.

Smush, is blocking supposed to be more abuse than running the ball? I think Eagle fans simply like to complain and will dream up any and every excuse to do it.

Regarding poor Westbrook and his hurt ribs…. so what. Jason Witten has had a rib injury all season and he still plays like a beast each and every week doing all of the same things he does when he is perfectly healthy. Its called MANing up and its something the Eagles know nothing about because each and every year their fans complain about injuries as if their team is the only one effected by them.

Yeah Greyhound is a clown. Witten’s production went down until Seattle. And everyone produces against them. Comparing a RB to a TE is laughable in terms of the amount of abuse either position takes.

But as far as the Eagles beating the Cards. Don’t get your panties in a bunch Eagle fans. Its just the Cards, they are a fraud. Wake me when the Eagles close out a game against a top team and stop choking away games like they did against their NFC East opponents.

His production is down is it? Well considering that Brooks Bollinger and Brad Johnson didn’t get anyone the ball for three weeks i would say that the fact that Jason Witten is leading all tight ends in yardage and 3rd in receptions is pretty good wouldn’t you?

As far as “abuse” by position goes that is pretty much a matter of opinion unless your talking about kickers. Jason Witten is asked to block 250+ pound defenders on a regular basis as well as go over the middle when the safety is just waiting to take his head off. He also lines up as lead blocker out of the I formation allot and manages to show up each and every week and play despite injuries. He is a tough SOB and your an idiot if you don’t realize that.

BTW, how many 16 game seasons has Westbrook played since he has been in the NFL? The answer …. ZERO! But since he is an Eagle then he must have a good excuse shouldn’t he? Doesn’t every Eagle player and fan have some excuse for everything that happens to them?

BTW, i didn’t even mention the rib injury that Barber has been playing with since September. No need to make a national case about it though because he just MANed up and has been playing with it without making excuses. Wow, what a concept huh?

I will be the first to admit that Barber isn’t running the same as he has the past couple of seasons but no matter, we have enough talent on our team to overcome things like this and we don’t need to make excuses for everyone when they aren’t having their best season ever or playing at 100%.

I could come up with 100 or more excuses why the Cowboys didn’t win the division AGAIN this year like they should have but none of them matter because we will be playing after the regular season ends and we will have the pleasure of being the last team that the Eagles face this season.
