Broncos RB Peyton Hillis became the first player to rush for more than 100 yards against the Jets this season, and finished with 129 yards and a touchdown.
The passing game also brought the Broncos success as Jay Cutler was 27-of-43 for 357 yards and two touchdowns.
Said Jets coach Eric Mangini, “We’ve established a certain way to play football around here, we’ve established a certain identity, and this was nothing close to that. I don’t think we played well in any of the three phases. I don’t think we coached very well. When you have that, this is what you get.”
Trailing 27-14 in the third quarter, the Jets called passes on both third and fourth-and-one from the Broncos 47-yard line and failed to convert each time.
Jets RB Thomas Jones cracked the 1,000-yard mark for the season with 138 yards on 16 carries.
Broncos S Vernon Fox, making his first start, returned a fumble for a touchdown to open the scoring.
Three members of the Bronco defense needed medical attention after three straight plays halting the Jets momentum on a second-half drive, prompting Jets G Brandon Moore to wonder “how many guys are on their injury report.”
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, meanwhile, said he was wondering if he’d have enough defenders to finish out the game.
Said Bronco WR Brandon Stokley, “I can’t explain it. I can’t. I just know we need to figure it out, because we need to play like this all the time.”
Bronco TEs Tony Scheffler and Daniel Graham controlled the middle of the field and finished with a combined 13 catches for 149 yards.

Jet fans booing when players get injured… classy.
Now their fans are saying the injuries were a consipracy… sounds like humble losers to me. Whether or not this was real I believe a real football team can still overcome that and score, it’s called playing football. It’s the freaking Bronco’s defense, they’re about as porous as a sponge. Their defense also should have not let up 27 points on the board. Their offense should have moved the chains and not give up a fumble for a touchdown. These are all things that an 8-3 (now 8-4) team should be wary of. That is the real reason they lost. Don’t be a poor sport… it just makes you look like an asshole.

Jets are the lowest of the low and the most overrated of all teams. They will fizzle and die…but they will be back, in like 10 years.

Identity? After five games?
Well, the Jets lost, which, contrary to whatever assertions Mangina might make, is a return to the Jets’ identity.
The Jets have not established an identity, they bought a Brett Favre and the fellatious press coverage that follows him.

Florio states the AFC West in the “none of the above division.” He may be right.
Then he puts the Jets at #2 in his power rankings, but the Jets have lost to Sandy Eggo, Denver, and Oakland. They also went down to the wire with KC.
So either the Jets aren’t as good as advertised, or the AFC West isn’t all that bad (hey, they still could beat the NFC West).

Wait so this makes the Broncos the best team in the AFC, right? Because last weekend after the Jets beat the Titans all the Jets fans proclaimed that they were the best because they beat the top team… so by that logic that would make the Broncos the best, right? Wow, hard to believe that’s our best team… the Broncos that just came off of a loss at home to the Raiders.

You really can’t blame him for bumping them up, they looked like they were hot up until yesterday. I’m a Titans fan but I even agree with his ranking.
Problem is big wins like the one they got in Nashville take a lot out of you… you become complacent, like when the Giants lost to the Browns. Sometimes a loss is good because it brings you back down to earth. I still think they’re a hot team.

I agree with you, titans_fan. Ironically, it’s similar to what happened to the Broncos the week before with their loss to the Raiders. They came off 2 big road wins at Cleveland on a Thursday night & Atlanta (games hardly anyone picked them to win) then came home and looked awful against the Raiders; a game everyone picked them to win.
Unfortunately for the Jets, nobody gave Denver a chance to beat them and some went so far as saying that the Broncos shouldn’t even get off the plane. That helped create the buzzsaw. The Broncos are currently the most difficult team to figure out, but opposing teams doubt them at their own peril.

Maybe Denver is getting hot at the right time? Hell I don’t know what to expect after last year where the Giants didn’t look like they deserved to be in the playoffs then ended up winning it all. I just know that if the Titans won out and went 15-1 I still wouldn’t feel comfortable. homefield advantage isn’t what it used to be, opposing teams have adapted.
