PRESEASON LIVE BLOG: BENGALS AT PACKERS

Posted by Mike Florio on 8/11/08, 4:47 p.m.

Our unofficial and extremely unscientific polling process resulted in a sense that PFT Planet wants a Live Blog for Monday night’s game between the Bengals at the Packers.

The box below has all the stuff.

And, remember, it’s only the preseason.  We’ll be holding back some of our playbook until the regular season starts.

What’s the over / under on a 2:1 ratio of Favre references over Rodgers references during the game? As ludicrous as it sounds, I can easily see more talk about the last quarterback instead of the current one.

….And how come no one asked Madden how he felt about the whole Favre thing? Seems like someone would have interviewed him, even if it was a joke. (Would have been hilarious if it was a joke and they didn’t let him know before the interview.)

James Jones is going to be to Rodgers, what Driver was to Favre. Look for him to have a big game.

The Defense is going to be active. Look for a sack or two from the linebackers.

A deep secondary will provide some good highlights.

Blackmon is going to light it up on returns.

    B. Jackson is going to show a big gain in his second year.

Grisley Aaron Rodgers (as in unshaven)or

Baby Faced Aaron Rodgers (as in clean shaven)?

It did look like Rogers was hurt on the 3rd play of the first drive. He came off holding his hand.

It’s only preseason, but Greenbay looks like their running game could be solid enough to carry their offense.

If you drank once every time a Bengals CB got smoked, you’d be having your stomach pumped about now.

That great sucking noise you hear is coming out of Green Bay.

How can an offense that is supposed to be so good look so AVERAGE against the Ben-galls?? Every pass attempt is 5 yards, except 3. AR ovethrows an easy TD. Another attempt is caught ONLY when the
receiver makes a good play to come BACK to the ball…

TWO SACKS? Against the BENGALS? The NFC is licking their chops.

Wait til Urlacher plants him, if the Vikings don’t.

    They traded Favre for THIS?

I have to say that the Live Blog was way more entertaining and, unsurprisingly, more informative, than the ESPN broadcast team.

Seriously, a main reason for watching pre-season games at all is to see how the draft picks and other new guys look. But the way these guys do play-by-play anymore, you’d think there’s only about three or four players on the field. But then, pretty much ALL broadcast teams are the same anymore: blah, blah, blah and it’s all about THEM and not what’s actually happening in the game. They’re mostly a distraction.

Which is why I usually watch with the sound off and follow the commentary online - as do most of the other fans I know. Hey, I wonder if the NFL and the advertisers know this? If they don’t, I sure hope someone tells them. Florio?

Thompson looked like the picture of David Byrne that they projected on the road in the Talking Heads “Burning Down the House” video.
