It was one thing to be fined $15,000 per day. It was quite another to start losing $191,000 per game.
And so Bills left tackle Jason Peters, who staged the lowest-profile holdout in recent memory, will finally show up, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
He’ll be reporting on Saturday, but the team doesn’t intend to play him on Sunday against the Seahawks.
Schefter says the Bills also will receive a two-game roster exemption for Peters, and that the team likely will use him on September 14.
The open question at this point is whether he gets paid for Week One. We’re trying to find out the answer.
Even if he gets paid for the game, the entire check would go to paying off his fines, which started to pile up from the first day of camp and which will stop once he reports.
Meanwhile, Peters won’t be getting the new contract that his holdout was aimed at securing. As Schefter explains, however, the two sides have agreed to maintain an open dialogue.
Peters is signed for three more years. He is scheduled to earn salaries of $3.25 million in 2008, $2.95 million in 2009, and $3.4 million in 2010.

He should have done sit-ups in his driveway for the press.

Another brilliant overpaid athlete realizes that pro football pays pretty darn good even if he is not the highest paid at his position.

Giving up one game check for a game he is not going to play in at a salary he does not want to play for? Ouch. How will he feed his kids?
They should have a better system in place like some form of arbitration, but they don’t so the Bills are going to lose the first game and maybe a QB behind a backup LT with a tough matchup.

If Peters acted in accordance with advice from his agent, he should fire the agent. If he acted on his own accord, the agent should fire him.

He’s a LT that out performed his contract and is looking for big money to set himself up for life.

I’m glad the Bills didn’t cave in. Everytime this guy gets a
new agent he wants a new contract. The Bills will do it but you have to show up. Now he’s got to go out and show that he deserves it after his bonehead move

pd33 - You hit the nail right on the head…..all he had to do was come to camp and he would be one of the 3 highest paid tackles in the league as we speak. It does not sound unreasonable to me to ask that he practice with the team and prepare for the opener, as hes contractually obligated to do, while his agent negotiates a way to make him filthy rich (and rip up an existing contract with 3 years remaining in the process)
His agent is an idiot.
Jeremiah W - Langston Walker, who usually starts at RT, has been filling in pretty capably during camp. He should be able to hold the fort for a few weeks, considering he weighs close to 6′8″ and 370 pounds.

kingzook is mostly right, except the Bills were never going to re-do his deal for the 2008 season. They were willing to redo the last two years (after this season), NOT 2008, as long as he showed up. Which is what it looks like they’re still going to do.
Nice work by a rookie GM getting what he wanted all along and only losing his stud LT for one game. Thankfully, the Seahawks are so banged up and shorthanded that the Bills will probably still win the opener, too.

So Eugene Parker is 1-1 this off-season. He got the Rams to give Steven Jackson a new deal (although Jackson had a lot more leverage since this was his final year), but whiffed on getting Peters a new one. And I hope the Bills force Peters to pay back some of the fines, enough to cover the game(s) he misses, which hopefully will be just one.

Jeremiah W-
“…but they don’t so the Bills are going to lose the first game and maybe a QB behind a backup LT with a tough matchup.”
I’ll pass on the opinion of a guy who’s commenting without even knowing who the backup LT is. I mean come on, if you’re going to comment on something you know nothing about, at least Google a name and pretend. (see: Langston Walker)

I know all about Big Frankenstien Langston Walker. I was interested in the Ravens getting him to replace our RT but thought hte price tag was too high.
Sea has a very tough D. If he can block the DEs they have he is well worth the cash, but a real good LT is hard to come by, and a bad one can get your season screwed up.
