NO SURGERY YET FOR CROWELL

Posted by Mike Florio on 9/5/08, 9:52 p.m.

And the saga of Bills linebacker Angelo Crowell suddenly gets a little weirder.

On Thursday, Crowell told the team he was going to have arthroscopic knee surgery.  It was news to the team, and they responded by putting him on injured reserve — even though it was believe that the surgery would have knocked him out of action for only a month at the most.

And now the team has said that Crowell hasn’t had the surgery, and will get a second opinion.

The problem is that the team doesn’t get a Mulligan on its decision to put Crowell on IR.  Regardless of what Crowell decides to do, he can’t play for the Bills again this year.

The only exception would be if he were to reach an injury settlement with the team within the next four days.  Then, he could return to the team at a point later in the year.  (It’s a little complicated as to when he could come back, and we’re a little too tired to try to figure it out right now.)

He can be released from injured reserve when healthy, but he then would not be able to come back to the Bills in 2008.

Regardless, if Crowell were to decide after seeing one (or maybe four) specialists, he won’t be able to pull a Shawne Merriman.  At least not in Buffalo.

Wow, that team can’t find it’s ass with both hands tied behind it’s back, what are the chances of THAT happening? Ralph Wilson truly has created a team in his own image.

What a ridiculous comment, Vox. As if you know the details of this situation well enough to pass judgment like that…

And there wouldn’t be an NFL as we know it without Ralph Wilson. Look it up, dumb ass.

This team is such a mess. They cannot keep any high level players they draft for the most part. They can’t bring in FAs. They alienate their best players. It’s an absolute train wreck.

Jason Peters, Lee Evans, Shobel, Lynch, McGee, Whitner. Plus Poz looks to be promising, Trent Edwards last year did the best of any rookie QB, and they did draft Nate Clements as well. Not exactly a team that doesn’t draft well (at least in recent years).

They got Derrick Dockery as a FA last year and Kawika Mitchell this year.

Is this a weird situation? Yeah. Do I think there’s probably more to this story like they needed the roster spot or just got bad info? Yeah but I’ll wait to here more.

The Jason Peters fiasco isn’t really their fault IMO. It’s his own bad negotiating policy. The line was come in and we’ll talk. Evans came in and they’re still working on his deal but they’re talking. Peters decided to hold out for no apparent reason.

To be honest they took a chance on him and gave him a raise which they didn’t have to long before he proved himself to be the kind of player he is. Did he deserve the raise at the time? No they actually did him a favor. Does he owe them for taking a shot on him and making him a LT which no other team did? Actually he does in a sense because he wouldn’t be able to ask for this kind of money if they didn’t but yes he deserves a raise although part of getting that was showing up and helping the team. That’s more on him. Steven Jackson held out for the Rams but showed up got a deal and will be playing in the opener. Right now he’s held out so long he can’t hurting the team and hurting his immediate chances of getting that new deal.

Way to post stupid comments about a situation you know nothing of. Crowell could have had the surgery weeks ago but said he was fine. Now all of a sudden, just days before the season opener, he says he needs it (no new injury). He decided to wait till after he got his first game paycheck before opting for the surgery. The Bills organization knew this wasn’t a season ending surgery and he could return but they put him on IR because he put himself before the team. It’s almost a foregone conclusion that he will never play for the Bills again. But the way you have it, he tries to screw over his team and the team is wrong.

Since he wasn’t receiving any dialogue about a new contract (rightfully so, since his knee has been a problem for 2 years), he decided to screw the team by telling them 3 days before the game that he was going to have surgery. So, the team one upped him and put him on IR. And most experts said he could miss more than half of the season. The 2-4 week timeframe was never realistic.

Why also is he asking for a second opinion, when the first opinion in the first place was HIS? He was the one that decided to have surgery. Now since he’s put on IR, he doesn’t need it anymore and wants to play? Well played sir…. NOT.

Really? Those guys are not quality? Mitchell- A super-bowl ring, which is a huge asset on a somewhat inexperienced Bills defense: Terrence McGee- a quality coverman and one of the best return men of all time: Aaron Schobel- Second most sacks in the league over hte past 5 years: Derrick Dockery, Langston Walker, and Chris Kelsay are all very valuble assets to the team. Not to mention we should throw Marcus Stroud into the mix, even though he was aquired through trade. I’d consider him pretty high quality, if he can stay healthy…
Just because they’re not a bunch of loud mouth whine-asses like other free agents in the league and they don’t make it onto the ESPN headlines doesnt mean they’re not quality.

Vox, you and SBS are complete idiots who know nothing about the team. You must be seahawk fans. The Bills have one of the most tight-knit groups in the league.
