BRAMLET TO BALTIMORE

Posted by Mike Florio on 8/27/08, 9:58 p.m.

We picked up two unconfirmed tips that quarterback Casey Bramlet could be joining the Ravens as soon as tomorrow.  And so we rolled up our sleeves and confirmed it.

Bramlet is joining the Ravens.

The Chargers released Bramlet on Tuesday.  He was in Miami for part of 2007 with Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who was the coach of the Fins for the team’s disastrous 1-15 season.

It’s unclear whether the Ravens would be acquiring Bramlet, a non-vested veteran, by making a waiver claim, or by signing him as a free agent after he cleared waivers.

The addition of Bramlet would be a fairly strong signal that Kyle Boller is headed to injured reserve due to a shoulder injury suffered in the second preseason game, against the Vikings.

As a Ravens’ season ticket holder…(shaking head and sighing).

Let’s hope that a Heisman Trophy actually means something. Let’s go Troy Smith, before Ray Ray gets angry!

Trust me, you wouldn’t like when Ray Ray gets angry!

He won the NFL Europe thing over there in it’s final year. At the time he was a Washington Redskins QB sitting on the practice squad. Also at the time the Redskins had Sam Hullenbach, Jason Campbell, Mark Brunell, and Todd Collins and the guy got cut. I mean come on. If he couldn’t beat out Brunell or Sam then WTF.

By the way - go skins!

He was first brought in by the Redskins as an undrafted free agent. That oughta clear it up. ;)

    Bramlett or Culpepper?

I’d hate to be Dante’s ego right about now.

I’ve heard Bramlet’s name bounced around quite a bit. Interesting that someone like Daunte Culpepper wouldn’t be called…the team needs a veteran. But if he wasn’t good enough for Cam Cameron last year, I guess he wouldn’t be this year either.

He’s 27, the Ravens will be his 5th NFL team, from Univ. of Wyoming, appears to have never thrown an NFL pass as his stats page is blank.

Can you say “Warm body” ?

Why is Culpepper not going after this Gig!?!?

I’m onBoard with the BlackBalling idea …
… if Boller is out, there is no real veteran on the club to push to start. Troy Smith held a clipboard all of last year.

I’ve heard of Casey … but warm body is accurate!

Culpepper & the Ravens seem to be a perfect fit here. Something is a-miss with ‘pepper!

Wow all kinds of fail in this one. He was drafted by the Bengals, and spent a couple of years in Cincinnati.

It’s a short term signing. Only Flacco can play in tonight’s game. Needed another QB for the last preseason game. The OL that got Boller hurt could get Flacco killed & then there would be ZERO healthy QBs. He is there only to get sacked when the 2nd & 3rd team OL is in the game. He’s chum.

    “Rolled up our sleeves.”?

And what? Sent out some email and text messages? Slow down Florio. It’s only the preseason. Don’t want to blister that thumb on a #4 QB signing.

We all know you will go on IR rather than risk a career threatening callus.

he could wind up as the emergency QB, i expect Boller on IR very soon.

the Ravens don’t have a use for Culpepper, they won’t go far this year and know their future at QB is Flacco with Smith as backup.

after the last two weeks i am figuring its about 70% likely Flacco will start game 1 for them, heck he has already made more progress than Boller did in 5 years. (ok, a little hyperbole there but not much)
