Titans coach Jeff Fisher gave a speech at the NFL Rookie Symposium this week. Titans quarterback Vince Young probably won’t be happy to know that he was one of the visual aids.
In explaining to rookies why they need to remember that they’re being watched at all times, Fisher showed the pictures of a shirtless Young that circulated on the Internet.
Vic Carucci of NFL.com reports that Fisher never mentioned Young by name, but he did show the picture of Young and tell the assembled rookies, “[Y]ou guys have got to be really careful because … one little cell phone camera that sends out [photos or video from] here and it ends up here. And guess what? You’re embarrassed.”
Carucci also reports that Fisher referred to wide receiver Brandon Jones as “dumb” for getting arrested at Nashville International Airport for having a loaded gun in a carry-on bag, and that Fisher used former Titans running back Travis Henry having eight kids from eight different mothers as another example of what not to do.

And he was wrong with which example?
Sounds like to me he’s given them good advise, but then commom sense would tell most people that.

Good.
Coach Fisher is fully entitled to use those as examples of what not to do. Maybe it is the only way to drive home the reality of being an attention magnet NFL player.
Jason Witten is from my hometown. He is a great example of how way a NFL player should conduct himself.
If this speech from Fisher saves just one young man from a critical career mistake then it is worth it.

props to fisher for calling it how it is. Too bad his track record doesnt show that he has the best “decision making” abilities. see: Pacman… I mean Adam Jones

What about Fischer holding a meeting for coaches and using himself as an example for people to not draft????

Good for Fisher. Just saying “You shouldn’t do this and that” isn’t enough. You need to cite examples like Shawn Kemp, er, Travis Henry.

Like the kids coming into the NFL are gonna listen to a white, middle aged head coach (although they should). The bad apples are gonna be bad apples no matter who the NFL parades in front of them…but it’s a nice gesture and Fisher is probably sincerely trying to help.

At least someone is trying to parent and guide these young men. If calling out the criminal/jackasses of the league is the price to pay, its a small price so hopefully 250+ athletes stay out of trouble.

being that young has already admitted that he needs to be more careful of his public image and use his head better so he isn’t caught in these types of scenerios, i dont think he would mind his coach using the pictures. now…if fischer was revealing something new, then it would probably be a whole other story altogether.

I like it. That’s straight talk. If Vince Young doesn’t want to be used as an example, he shouldn’t put himself in that position.
Everybody knows Jeff Fisher really wants to be a male model, but you don’t see him prancing around shirtless at sausage fests. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

This really doesn’t have anything to do w/ VY. He probably won’t have a problem w/ Fisher using that at all.
This is just the way Fisher is. He’s a player’s coach. He’s not the greatest strategist or anything but he does a great job at getting the best out of his players. He thought he could help pac overcome his problems and he tried his best to do so but pac would say all the right things to Fisher’s face and then turn around and get in trouble the next day. Its why all of pac’s latest talk isn’t really that impressive.
And yeah Jones had a gun in his carry on but his excuse (believe it or not) was it was a mistake. The gun was in the bottom of the back b/c the last time he used the bag was to go to the gun range and he was in a hurry and just threw stuff in the bag when he headed to the airport… /shrug BJ’s never really had problems before so i’m fine w/ giving him the benifit of the doubt in this case.

Speaks about character, but has character issues on his team. LOL!!!! At least he’s not afraid of the players on his team like other coachs, but its going to take alot more than pictures and telling players not to do the wrong thing in order to prevent future problems. Some of these idiots need chaperones LOL !!!

What Fisher did is correct in that he only used his players and former players as examples. I’m sure Florio would have made disparaging remarks if he had pointed out players from other teams that he has not coached by commenting how he needs to “clean up” his own team before he points out others, etc.

I like Fisher as a former Bears Defensive Back and as a Coach.
Using his own Marquis QB as an example took guts.
He could have weaseled out and only used examples from teams other than the Titans, but I think he did it the right way.
If Vince don’t like it, Vince can suck eggs…

And besides that, Travis Henry should be used as an example every time they have the thing.
He’s an example of
having the Golden Opportunity of a Lifetime and
putting a taint on it by
not practicing responsible sex and parenting.
So, there you go…
